About This Course

Get your imagination flowing with Roblox Studio, an immersive game engine that can be played on the web, mobile, or even in virtual reality! You'll learn the fundamentals of game design and build your very own obstacle course, complete with fire-spawning platforms and speed boosts that’ll put your name on the top of the leaderboard. And with Roblox’s toolbox and a dash of creativity, you’ll sculpt mountains and design custom art for your avatar to wear in-game.

Sample Schedule

Here’s a sample of what a week in the course could look like! Please keep in mind that students will progress at varying paces; this is a general outline of the key material and overall student experience.

Monday: Modify Game Terrain

Students will modify the game terrain to create mountains, valleys, and plateaus. Then, they’ll set up basic platforms for their obby, following level design principles.

Tuesday: Implement a Checkpoint System

Next, students will learn how to implement a checkpoint system that saves player progress. Players who travel out of the game boundaries will respawn on the map!

Wednesday: Design Custom Products for Avatars

Using the Toolbox, students will get creative and find unique elements to add to their game such as skyscrapers and cars. Then, they’ll design custom products for player avatars, such as shirts and pants, that they can monetize to start earning Robux!

Thursday: Construct a Leaderboard

In their games, students will construct a leaderboard that displays the player’s running or final obby completion time and allows for friendly competition.

Friday: Strategize Placement of Collectible Items

To complete the week, students will add collectible items that players can find for a quick speed boost. Plan the placement of boost items so that players have to strategize to conquer their leaderboard times!
