About This Course

Roblox is one of the fastest-growing game creation platforms on the planet, with more than 100 million players per month and top developers making over $1 million a year. Use Roblox’s built-in editor with Lua—a powerful and fast programming language—to design challenging levels and code intuitive gameplay mechanics. Then, publish, share, and play games with your friends on any platform, from console to mobile. Lua enables you to create scripts either for your own game or to sell to other game designers!

Sample Schedule

Here’s a sample of what a week in the course could look like! Please keep in mind that students will progress at varying paces; this is a general outline of the key material and overall student experience.

Monday: Sculpt a Game Terrain

Students will sculpt a game terrain complete with mountains, valleys, and plateaus. Then, they’ll set up the basic structure and platforms for their obby, following level design principles.

Tuesday: Code a Checkpoint System in Lua

Next, students will code their own checkpoint system in Lua script that saves player progress and updates their respawn location as they reach checkpoints. They’ll develop game boundaries that keep players within the live game area.

Wednesday: Code a Developer Product to Monetize

Using the Toolbox, students will search for unique elements to add to their game such as skyscrapers and cars. From there, they’ll build and code an in-game developer product that they can monetize to begin earning Robux.

Thursday: Construct & Code a Leaderboard

In their games, students will construct and code a leaderboard that displays the player’s running or final obby completion time and allows for friendly competition.

Friday: Create & Place Collectible Items

To complete the week, students will create collectible items that players can find for a quick speed boost. Plan the placement of boost items so that players have to strategize to conquer their leaderboard times!

Portfolio-Boosting Diploma & Transcript

At the conclusion of your child's course, they will receive an official iD Tech diploma and course transcript outlining the skills they learned over the course of the week.
